About Us

Route 66 Barn Hunt Club

We are a small Barn Hunt club located in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area and founded in 2019 by the late Bucky Mills.

Barn Hunt is a sport where the dogs search for rats protected in PVC tubes which are hidden in hay bales. Empty tubes and tubes with only litter are also hidden as distractions. There are four levels; Novice, Open, Senior and Master. Each level becomes increasingly more difficult. The dog must find all hidden tubes which contain a rat and alert their handler. The handler calls Rat and the tube is removed from the course. The dog continues searching until all rats are found or the handler calls clear. The dog must also go through a tunnel and climb up on at least one hay bale within the specified amount of time.

Barn Hunt provides an opportunity for responsible breeders and owners to test proper working traits in their dogs. Barn Hunt is open to any dog of any breed or mix who wishes to play the game and can fit through an 18″ wide by bale-height tall tunnel.

Barn hunt is a great sport for older dogs and older people too! Handicapped dogs such as tripod and deaf dogs can compete.

Barn Hunt is committed to creating a safe and fun sport for all. Rat care is one of the highest priorities. The rats used in Barn Hunt are beloved family pets. They jump eagerly into their safe, comfortable aerated tubes and truly enjoy interacting with the dogs.
